Office of the Chief Operating Officer
The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the management of the Central Offices of the Curia. He ensures that the activities of those offices are aligned to provide effective support to our clergy and the people in our parishes and chaplaincies, so that they can focus their energy on the core mission of the Church – bearing witness to the Gospel of Christ.
The COO works closely with the Bishop and the Trustees to convert the diocesan vision into strategy, priorities and plans. Canonically, the role is ecclesial, with emphasis on ‘stability’ and ‘security’.
The COO role is very wide and, therefore, the person has to exercise their duty in communion with the Church. They must work on the principle that “money must serve, not rule!” and also “that which affects all should be decided upon with the input of all if at all possible”.
