Welcome the Stranger
Fostering a culture of invitation and welcome in the Diocese of Plymouth
‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me’ (Matthew 25:35)
All human beings are our brothers and sisters belonging to one race and one human family. Pope Francis reminded us that “Every human being has the right to live with dignity and to develop integrally.” Fratelli Tutti #106
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales’ document, Love the Stranger, calls us to consider the individual behind every migration statistic, and to see ourselves in every person leaving their homeland in search of a safer life.
Caritas Plymouth’s Refugee and Migration Project strengthens the links between the Diocese and local organisations and agencies working with people seeking asylum, those with refugee status and migrant workers in crisis, enabling us to provide effective signposting to key sources of support and information.
This project is also working to tackle the issue of Modern Slavery in the UK, through awareness-raising and ideas for action. We have created a poster to summarise the issues and the call to action.
We want to build on the great work already being done in many parishes across the Diocese to open our hearts and share a culture of welcome.
