Volunteering

“Serve with faith. Act with love. Live as Christ taught.”

Volunteering

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”
Hebrews 13:16

Volunteers are at the heart of our Church’s calling to serve, reflecting Christ’s love through faithful action and willing hearts. By giving their time and gifts, our volunteers help us live out our mission to serve, support, and empower our community, becoming partners in God’s work among us.

We warmly welcome those who feel called to volunteer in any area of church life, knowing that service is both an act of worship and a response to God’s grace.

In caring for one another, we are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment; therefore, all volunteering roles involving children and/or adults at risk are subject to a DBS check, and volunteers in these roles are required to sign our Safeguarding Code of Conduct, ensuring that our service is rooted in love, responsibility, and integrity.

There are many ways to volunteer, to use those gifts and skills given by God:

Parish Committees: Whether you have skills in finance, property or fundraising your Parish priest will warmly welcome your support.

Flower Arranging: Flowers within our Churches are an expression of so much within our faith; a reminder of god’s creation, a marker for the liturgical seasons and an expression of both joy and sorrow – the very act of placing flowers may be in itself an act of devotion, of prayer.

Collection Counters: In order to meet our audit requirements, collection counting must always be undertaken by two people, a practice that reflects our commitment to integrity, accountability, and good stewardship.

Lectors: Lectors or Readers hold a vital and honoured ministry within the Catholic Mass, serving as faithful instruments through whom God speaks to His people during the Liturgy of the Word. Their role goes beyond public speaking; it is the reverent and prayerful proclamation of the living Word of God, offered to nourish and guide the gathered community in faith.

Drivers: The simple act of ensuring that a fellow Parishioner can attend Mass, ensures that our community remains vibrant and active and inclusive.

Church Cleaners: Church cleaning is a quiet but vital ministry, often unseen yet deeply significant, as it helps create a welcoming and sacred space where people can gather to worship God. Through faithful care of our buildings, these servants reflect humility and devotion, reminding us that every act of service, no matter how hidden, is precious in God’s eyes.

Extraordinary Ministers: Members of the congregation specially commissioned to distribute holy Communion at Mass, to those in Hospital or housebound.
For further information on how to volunteer within you Parish community please contact your Parish Priest.

Beyond the Parish there are further opportunities to put Faith into practice, from ecumenical and interfaith movements to groups such as the St Vincent de Paul Society, to charitable endeavours such as Caritas and CAFOD, each offers ways to connect to the wider Church and serve our communities and strengthen our faith.

Please do come forward and offer your assistance where you think you can be of most help.
